The Jacopo Ferrazza Quintet is an ensemble that moves freely and originally within the boundaries of contemporary jazz, blending elements of chamber music, electronics, rock, and late-Romantic influences into a personal and highly evocative musical language.
At the helm of the project is double bassist and composer Jacopo Ferrazza, a leading figure in the new Italian jazz scene, widely appreciated for his ability to combine compositional rigor, experimental openness, and great technical and timbral sensitivity.
The quintet stands out for its strong sonic cohesion and its ability to merge different backgrounds into a unified aesthetic: the writing, often inspired by classical and cinematic forms, interacts with jazz improvisation, while the use of electronics and the presence of atmospheres typical of progressive and post-rock music enrich the sound texture with depth and unpredictability.
The group has released two recordings:
• Fantàsia (2022): a concept album born from two years of research and composition, blending modern jazz, chamber music, and electronics into a cohesive musical narrative where acoustic and electronic worlds merge in a dreamlike setting.
• Prometheus (2025): a work inspired by the Promethean myth, reinterpreting the classical figure of the titan as a metaphor for the human being and their path of rebirth. The album explores themes of evolution, inner search, and transformation through a hybrid language that alternates introspection and sonic power.
Over time, the Jacopo Ferrazza Quintet has performed at some of the most important Italian jazz festivals.
Recognized for the originality of the project and the quality of execution, the quintet has established itself as one of the most interesting and cross-genre ensembles on the Italian scene, capable of engaging both a cultured and sensitive audience and listeners open to genre contamination.
Over the years, the quintet has received numerous awards and critical acclaim from top music magazines and specialized platforms, gaining appreciation in the United States, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
In 2022, the quintet won the Global Music Awards in California in the Jazz category with the album Fantàsia, and in 2024, it was selected as one of the best new international projects by Pathways to Jazz in Colorado, which decided to co-produce the new album Prometheus, released in 2025.
